Why You Don’t Want to Mess With Pop Star Anne-Marie 🥊

Long before topping global music charts with multi-platinum pop anthems like “2002” and “Friends,” British singer-songwriter Anne-Marie Nicholson lived a parallel life as an elite international martial artist.
Starting traditional Shotokan karate at age nine in Essex, England, she advanced rapidly through the ranks, eventually earning a second-degree black belt. In 2002, at just twelve years old, she traveled to Las Vegas and secured two gold medals at the Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Association (FSKA) World Championships, going on to capture three world championship titles and multiple national titles throughout her competitive career.
In numerous interviews, Anne-Marie has highlighted how the relentless physical and mental conditioning of martial arts—specifically breath regulation, core stability, performance under extreme pressure, and strict self-discipline—became the foundational psychological toolkit that allowed her to endure the grueling demands of international touring and high-stakes stage performance.
